Visual Memory — free online memory game

About this game

A pattern of lit tiles flashes for a moment, then goes dark. Click back every tile that was lit. More tiles appear every level, and three misses end the run — a classic visual–spatial span test.

Want your baseline first? Take the Visual Memory Test — a 2–3 minute standardized version of this task with a population benchmark, then come back and train on it.

How to play Visual Memory

  1. 1Some tiles light up briefly — memorize them.
  2. 2Click every tile that was lit.
  3. 3More tiles each level. 3 misses end the run.

What Visual Memory trains

Visual memory span is how many separate locations you can hold as a picture in your mind. Unlike sequence tests, order does not matter here — only the shape of the pattern. Players naturally start grouping tiles into lines, corners and blocks, which is genuine spatial-chunking practice.

What is a good Visual Memory level?

Levels 6–8 are typical for first-time players. Beyond that, the winning move is to stop seeing individual tiles and start seeing shapes — an L-corner, a diagonal, a 2×2 block — and remember two or three shapes instead of a dozen tiles.

Is this the same as a photographic memory test?

It measures the visual detail you can reconstruct after a brief flash — the real skill behind 'photographic memory' searches. True photographic memory has never been demonstrated in controlled studies; strong visual span is the honest, trainable version of it.

Is Visual Memory free?

Yes — Visual Memory is completely free, with no account, no signup and no downloads. Scores are saved privately in your browser, and you can install MemoryGames as an app from your browser menu if you want it on your home screen.
