Privacy Policy

MemoryGames is built privacy-first: there are no accounts, no signups, and nothing you do in the games is ever uploaded. This page explains exactly what is stored, where it lives, and how advertising cookies work if ads are shown.

1. Who we are

MemoryGames ("we", "us") operates the website at memorygames.app — a free collection of browser-based memory games, guides and articles. You can reach us at any time via the contact page or by email at hello@memorygames.app. This policy explains how information is handled when you use the site.

2. The short version

You never need an account, and we never ask for your name, email address or any personal detail to play. Your scores, streaks, settings and guide progress are saved only inside your own browser's local storage, on your own device. Nothing is transmitted to us, and there is no server-side database of player activity. The only situations in which information about you can reach third parties are (a) advertising cookies, if and when advertising is enabled, (b) the anonymous push-notification record described in section 5a, if and only if you explicitly enable daily reminders, and (c) the standard technical requests every web server receives (your IP address, in server logs, to serve pages). All are described in detail below.

3. Information stored on your device

The games use your browser's local storage (a standard browser feature, like cookies but larger and never sent to servers) to remember your progress. Specifically, we store: your game attempts and scores, personal bests and streaks, the state of today's workout, your interface language choice, sound and theme settings, guide progress, and the dismissed state of notices like the cookie banner. This data is only ever read by the site itself when your browser loads it.

You have complete control over it at all times. You can export a backup file from the Settings page and import it on another device, or delete everything with the reset option in Settings — and clearing your browser data for this site removes all of it permanently. Because the data never leaves your device, we cannot read, recover, or delete it remotely.

4. Cookies

A cookie is a small text file a website can place in your browser. MemoryGames itself sets no tracking cookies. We use local storage (described above) for your preferences, which works similarly but is never transmitted with web requests. If we ever add an essential cookie, this section will be updated before it happens.

Cookies can be set by third parties when they provide services on our pages — in practice, this means advertising (below). You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time; every major browser lets you do this, and the site continues to work fully without them.

5. Advertising

The site is free and may be supported by advertising. We may use Google AdSense, and if ads are shown the following applies. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies (such as the DoubleClick DART cookie) enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the internet.

You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, and you can opt out of third-party vendor cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info/choices or optout.networkadvertising.org. For visitors in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, a consent notice is shown before personalized advertising cookies are used, in line with Google's EU user consent policy.

Ad placements on this site are always visually separated from game content, never disguised as interface elements, and never placed to trick you into clicking. Blocking ads changes nothing about the site's functionality.

5a. Daily reminder notifications

If — and only if — you tap "Remind me daily" and grant the browser notification permission, we store one anonymous record with our notification service (a Cloudflare Worker): a random push endpoint generated by your browser, your interface language, and your timezone offset. It contains no name, no email, no identifiers, and none of your game data, and it exists purely so one reminder a day can reach you. The ask appears once, after your second finished game — answering "No thanks" permanently disables it.

You can delete the record at any time: switch reminders off in Settings (or revoke notification permission for this site in your browser), and the subscription is removed from our service immediately.

6. Analytics and logs

We do not run our own analytics on gameplay, and no analytics service currently receives data from your use of the site. Like every web server, our hosting provider processes standard technical request data (IP address, requested URL, browser type, timestamp) to serve pages and keep the site secure; this is minimal, kept for a short period, and is not used to profile you. If we ever add a privacy-respecting analytics service, this section will be updated first.

7. Children's privacy

MemoryGames is a general-audience site and is not directed at children under 13. Because no accounts exist and no personal information is collected from anyone, no personal information is collected from children. If you believe a child has entered any personal information anywhere on the site (for example by emailing us), contact us and we will delete it.

8. Your rights (GDPR / CCPA)

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with comparable law, you have rights over your personal data, including the rights to access, correct, delete and export it, and to object to processing or lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority. Because MemoryGames stores everything locally and uploads nothing, you can exercise every practical right yourself: export your data from Settings, or delete it via the reset option or your browser's site-data controls.

California residents have equivalent rights under the CCPA/CPRA. We do not "sell" or "share" personal information as those terms are defined; advertising, where enabled, is disclosed above and governed by your cookie and consent choices. For anything you cannot do yourself, email us at hello@memorygames.app and we will help.

9. Data security

The site is served over HTTPS. Since gameplay data exists only in your browser, the attack surface for your progress is essentially your own device. There is no central database of players that could be breached, because there is no central database at all — a design decision we consider the strongest privacy guarantee we can offer.

10. External links and content

Our articles and guides occasionally link to external websites (for example, research publishers or opt-out tools). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites; we encourage you to read their policies. Contact from you via email is handled by your own mail provider under its own policy.

11. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, the updated date at the top of this page will change, and material changes (such as enabling advertising or analytics) will be described in the relevant section before or at the time they take effect. The policy will always reflect what the site actually does — no more, no less.
