Memory Palace — free online memory game

About this game

Items float past and land in numbered rooms along a journey through a house. Later, the rooms ask you in order: what landed here? This is the method of loci — the 2,500-year-old technique behind every memory record — as a playable drill.

How to play Memory Palace

  1. 1Items appear one at a time, each landing in a numbered room along the journey.
  2. 2Later the rooms ask in journey order — type what landed in each.
  3. 3Score = items named for their exact room (spelling counts, case doesn't).

What Memory Palace trains

The memory palace works because spatial memory is your brain's oldest, strongest system: you remember places effortlessly, so you hang new information on them. Each round here forces the real move — see item, see room, fuse them into one scene. Do this under time pressure and the technique becomes reflex, ready for real lists, speeches and exams.

Category: Memory sports · Scoring: Items in items · Modes: 12 rooms, 18 rooms, 24 rooms

Tip: Picture each item doing something in its room — a penguin cooking in the kitchen is hard to forget.

How does a memory palace work?

You choose a familiar route (your house, your commute), fix its stops in order, then place one vivid image at each stop. Recall is walking the route and reading the images. The locations act as built-in cues that never fade.

Do I need the interactive guide first?

It helps — the Memory Palace guide teaches the method in about 5 minutes with a practice journey. But the game itself teaches by doing: place enough penguins in kitchens and the technique becomes yours.

Is Memory Palace free?

Yes — Memory Palace is completely free, with no account, no signup and no downloads. Scores are saved privately in your browser, and you can install MemoryGames as an app from your browser menu if you want it on your home screen.
